Anxiety in Older Adults
NEEDS STATEMENT
This enduring activity is aimed to educate non-geriatric professionals in recognizing and addressing geriatric mental health concerns that can exacerbate physician health conditions. This course will review symptoms and characteristics of anxiety, the risk factors and other correlates of anxiety, and basic diagnostic features for common anxiety disorders in older adults.
TARGET AUDIENCE
This activity is for physicians, physician assistants, social workers, or other healthcare professionals involved in the care of older adults.
EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of the activity, participants will be able to:
- Summarize symptoms and characteristics of anxiety in older adults
- Identify risk factors and other correlates to anxiety
- Explain anxiety in dementia patients
- Identify basic diagnostic features and screening questions for common anxiety disorders in older adults
